Introduction
Training a Doberman isn’t just about teaching commands—it’s about building a bond. In this post, I’ll share the foundational obedience steps practiced with our Doberman, Gioia, illustrated through photos that capture one of the most important elements of training: eye contact.
Why Eye Contact Matters in Training
Dobermans are highly intelligent and intuitive. Eye contact builds trust, reinforces focus, and strengthens communication. Every image in this post shows Gioia looking directly at her owner—a reflection of the connection we’ve built through consistent, respectful training.
Basic Commands We Practice
Each command is paired with a photo showing my Doberman performing the action while maintaining eye contact.
1. Sit
A simple yet powerful command. It teaches patience and sets the tone for more advanced training.
2. Stay
This command builds impulse control and trust. It’s especially useful in busy environments.
3. Come
Reliable recall is essential for safety and freedom. This command is all about responsiveness.
4. Down
This command teaches your Doberman to lie down calmly and stay in a relaxed position. It’s useful for managing excitement, promoting self-control, and preparing for longer stays
5. Leave it
This command helps prevent unwanted behavior and teaches discipline.
Training Philosophy
Positive reinforcement: Treats, praise, and play.
Consistency: Clear cues and daily practice.
Respect: No harsh corrections—just guidance and trust.
Final Thoughts
Training a Doberman is a journey of mutual respect. These photos aren’t just demonstrations of obedience—they’re snapshots of a relationship built on focus, trust, and love.
